2.1 MOUNT WILSON OBSERVATOR REBRAND

Visual Identity, Exhibition Design

2.2 COSMIC SOUND CONCERT︎

Related Project

Known as a testament to Southern California's long and illustrious legacy in astronomy, Mount Wilson Observatory is a home for the giant telescopes and a destination for the world's best scientists. The identity system challenges the dynamism of a cultural entity as a destination for scientific research, historic preservation, education, public engagement, and the arts.

The visual identity embraces the particle and wave duality that is inherent to the movement of information through our universe. These ideas are reflected in the forms of the logo, which are dually reminiscent of the microscopic particle and the macroscopic celestial body.

By adding or decreasing weight and extending or compressing the wavelength of the logo, the flexible form combinations are generated to represent different astronomical meanings and adapt to different use environments.

The custom typeface MWO is inspired by the representative architectural form of the observatory dome.

The poster series aims to communicate the historical background and narratives of Mount Wilson Observatory from both visual and informational aspects.

ENVIRONMENTAL REBRAND

︎
The dimensional explorations of identity system demonstrate how logo system and custom typeface integrate with architectures and Mount Wilson Observatory's natural environment.

︎

DIGITAL INTERFACE

︎
The digital experience provides in-depth statistics and comprehensive information on Mount Wilson Observatory and essential discoveries in the history of astronomical research.
